Mailchimp SMS pricing (2026): credit costs, cost per text by country, and which plans include it

Short answer: Mailchimp SMS starts at $20/month for 1,000 credits, on top of a paid email plan (Essentials from $13/month). A US text uses 1 credit (2¢ at the smallest block), a UK text 5 credits, a German text 12. Credits expire every month, and SMS isn't available on the Free plan.

You pick a monthly credit amount when you apply for SMS. It renews with your email plan.

Each sending country uses a different number of credits per message. Cost per text = credits per SMS × price per credit.

Worked examples: what you'd pay per month
Mailchimp's formula is contacts × sends per month × credits per SMS, then you buy the next block up. These are for single-part texts; a message that splits into 2 parts doubles the credits.

Rules that change the bill
- Plans: SMS needs Essentials or higher; not available on Free. MMS and branded short links need Standard or Premium.
- Approval first: you submit an SMS application per sending number and country and aren't charged until it's approved.
- No rollover: unused credits expire at the end of each billing cycle. A mid-cycle subscription is prorated; a one-time refill is charged in full.
- More countries cost more: your first sending number in your first country has no extra credit cost; each extra sending number for another country needs credits. Messages only go to contacts in the country of the sending number.
- Standard vetting (faster US sending) comes with 5,000+ credits, or with Premium at any amount.
- Credits pay only for texts (and replies sent from Mailchimp Inbox), not for your email plan.

How much does Mailchimp SMS cost?
SMS is a monthly credit subscription on top of a paid email plan. The smallest block is 1,000 credits for $20/month; 10,000 credits cost $90/month and 50,000 cost $325/month (US-dollar prices on Mailchimp's SMS pricing page, checked 2026-10-29). You aren't charged for SMS until Mailchimp approves your SMS application.
How much does one text message cost on Mailchimp?
It depends on the country: a US text uses 1 credit, Canada 3, the UK 5, Australia 4, Germany 12, Slovenia 16. At the smallest block a credit costs 2¢, so a US text is about 2¢ and a UK text about 10¢. Bigger blocks are cheaper per credit (0.90¢ at 10,000 credits). Long messages that split into 2 texts use twice the credits.
Is SMS included in Mailchimp's Free plan?
No. SMS is an add-on for the Essentials plan or higher. MMS (pictures and GIFs) needs Standard or Premium and works only for US and Canadian programs. Premium also includes standard vetting below 5,000 credits; on other plans it comes with 5,000+ credits.
Do unused Mailchimp SMS credits roll over?
No. Credits renew with your plan each billing cycle and unused credits expire. You can top up mid-month with a one-time purchase at full price, or change your monthly credit subscription, which takes effect next cycle.
What is Mailchimp SMS pricing in the UK and Australia?
On the pricing page 1,000 credits cost £15.11/month in pounds and A$28.64 in Australian dollars. A UK text uses 5 credits and an Australian text 4, so 1,000 credits cover 200 UK texts or 250 Australian texts. Australian programs can only text +61 numbers.
Which countries does Mailchimp SMS support?
The US and Canada, the UK, Australia and 33 other European countries (listed in the table on this page). You need a sending number registered in each country you text, and a separate SMS application for each.
