Newsletter platform alternatives
Thinking of leaving your platform? Each page prices it at common list sizes and lists every tracked platform that costs less, from the same verified data as the calculator.
- Substack alternatives — Substack is free to start, but it keeps 10% of every paid subscription. Once a paid newsletter grows, that cut usually costs more than a flat-priced platform, and Substack has no automation builder in our data.
- Mailchimp alternatives — Mailchimp prices by stored contacts, its free plan stops at 250 contacts, and automation flows start on Standard. Newsletter-focused tools often cost less at the same list size.
- beehiiv alternatives — beehiiv raised prices on October 1, 2026 (Scale became Lite, Max became Pro). Existing customers move to the new prices at their first renewal on or after November 1, 2026.
- Kit alternatives — Kit's free plan is generous (10,000 subscribers), but visual automations and sequences need the Creator plan, which is priced per subscriber tier.
- Flodesk alternatives — Flodesk closed its flat-priced Unlimited plan to new members on December 2, 2025. Pricing now rises with your active subscribers, Lite stops at 25,000 subscribers with 1 workflow, and the Free plan can't send email.
- Sender alternatives — Sender's free plan is generous (2,500 subscribers, 15,000 emails a month), but branding removal and custom domains need a paid plan, and the 30% yearly discount only applies to the first year.
- Klaviyo alternatives — Klaviyo charges by active profiles, which include shoppers who never opted in, bills self-serve plans monthly only, and its free plan stops at 250 profiles and 500 emails a month.
- Omnisend alternatives — Omnisend bills every non-unsubscribed contact, including customers who never opted in, its tier rises automatically each billing cycle, and Free stops at 250 contacts.
- Moosend alternatives — Moosend has no free plan, only a 30-day trial, and its single Pro plan is priced per contact with every contact counted once.
- Brevo alternatives — Brevo prices by monthly email volume, not subscribers, so a weekly newsletter needs about 4 sends per subscriber. Free sends at most 300 emails a day, and removing the Brevo logo is a paid add-on (Starter for 500 contacts: $9/mo, or $21/mo without the logo).
- Constant Contact alternatives — Constant Contact has no free plan, only a free trial. Lite starts at $12/mo for 500 contacts, you're billed on your highest number of active contacts in the billing period, and deleting contacts doesn't lower the tier.
- MailerLite alternatives — MailerLite's free plan shrank from 1,000 subscribers to 500 (between the August 1 and September 17, 2025 captures of its pricing page) and then to 250 (by July 3, 2026). Paid plans are now Comfort and Power, priced by subscriber tier.
- AWeber alternatives — AWeber Free stops at 500 subscribers and 3,000 sends a month. On paid plans AWeber moves you up a tier automatically when you pass the subscriber count or send allowance, but it only moves you back down if you ask support.
- ActiveCampaign alternatives — ActiveCampaign has no free plan, only a 14-day trial. Starter begins at $19/mo for 1,000 contacts, plans are priced in contact bands, and sends above each plan's allowance cost $0.005 each.
- GetResponse alternatives — GetResponse Free covers 500 contacts but keeps automations for the first 14 days only, and paid plans are billed on your peak active subscribers in the month plus the contacts you added that month.
- Ghost alternatives — Ghost's hosted service has no free plan. Starter costs $18/mo for up to 1,000 members without paid subscriptions, Publisher starts at $35/mo, and Ghost's pricing page lists no drip-automation builder.
- HubSpot alternatives — HubSpot's free tools allow 2,000 marketing email sends a month with HubSpot branding. Marketing Hub Starter costs $20/mo per seat for 1,000 marketing contacts, and HubSpot doesn't publish Starter prices above that on its pricing page.
- Mailjet alternatives — Mailjet prices by monthly email volume. Free stops at 200 emails a day (1,000 stored contacts), extra emails beyond a paid plan are billed, and unused emails don't roll over.
