Mailjet plans (2026): Free vs Starter vs Essential vs Premium, the price at every email volume and the overage cost

Last verified against official pricing pages · published 3 Nov 2026

Prices change often. Each price was checked on the platform's official pricing page on the date shown; plans, promos and taxes vary. Confirm on the official site before you buy. Not financial advice.

Mailjet has four self-serve plans: Free (6,000 emails a month, 200 a day), Starter $9/mo, Essential from $19/mo and Premium from $29/mo, plus a quoted Custom plan. You pay for emails sent per month, not for contacts: Essential tops out at 50,000 emails and Premium runs to 500,000. Yearly billing is 10% cheaper on every plan.

From the plan catalogue on Mailjet's pricing page, checked 2026-11-03; it matches our price data (checked 2026-11-03). "Weekly list it covers" is our calculation at 4 emails per subscriber a month; Starter also caps contacts at 2,000. Essential has no tier above 50,000; above 500,000 Mailjet quotes the Custom plan.

Monthly billing with the yearly per-month price in brackets, from the pricing page. Overage prices (USD · EUR · GBP) from Mailjet's Subscription Management help article. The euro and pound prices are Mailjet's own list prices, not a currency conversion. Prices exclude VAT: Mailjet charges French VAT, and EU businesses with a valid intra-Community VAT number are exempt.

When to upgrade instead of paying overage

Paid plans never stop sending at the limit. Extra emails are billed at the rates above when the plan renews, and you can't switch this off. Below is the monthly volume at which the next tier becomes cheaper than staying put and paying overage.

Current planNext stepSwitch abovePrice gap buys
Starter 8,000 ($9)Essential 15,000 ($19)about 11,800$10 = 3,876 extra emails

Premium 50,000 ($59)Premium 100,000 ($112)about 84,800$53 = 34,868 extra emails
Premium 100,000 ($112)Premium 250,000 ($265)about 210,000$153 = 110,072 extra emails
Premium 250,000 ($265)Premium 500,000 ($499)about 437,200$234 = 187,200 extra emails

Our calculation, USD monthly billing: current tier's volume plus the price gap divided by the current tier's overage rate, rounded down to the nearest 100 emails. Mailjet doesn't say whether overage is rounded to whole blocks of 1,000. Tip from the help article: upgrade before the cycle ends and the extra emails are deducted from the new plan rather than billed.

FAQ

What are the Mailjet plans?

Free ($0, 6,000 emails a month, at most 200 a day, 1,000 contacts), Starter ($9/mo for 8,000 emails, 2,000 contacts), Essential ($19/mo for 15,000 or $40 for 50,000 emails, unlimited contacts) and Premium (from $29/mo for 15,000 up to $499 for 500,000 emails). Above that, Custom is quoted. Prices exclude VAT.

How much does Mailjet cost per month?

Monthly billing, USD: Starter $9 (8,000 emails); Essential $19 (15,000) or $40 (50,000); Premium $29, $59, $112, $265 or $499 for 15,000 to 500,000 emails. Yearly billing takes 10% off every plan, paid upfront.

Is Mailjet priced by contacts or by emails?

By emails sent per month. Contacts are capped only on Free (1,000) and Starter (2,000); Essential and Premium have unlimited contacts. For a weekly newsletter (about 4 emails per subscriber a month) the 15,000-email tier covers about 3,750 subscribers and the 50,000 tier about 12,500 (our calculation).

What is the Mailjet free plan limit?

6,000 emails a month with a daily cap of 200, and up to 1,000 contacts. No credit card is needed. Emails carry the Mailjet logo and online support is limited to the first month. Because of the 200-a-day cap, one newsletter can reach only 200 people in a day.

What is the difference between Mailjet Essential and Premium?

Premium adds automations, A/B testing, dynamic content, landing pages, advanced statistics, a preference center, saved/locked sections, multi-user access with permissions, priority support and up to 20 subaccounts; from 50,000 emails phone and chat support, and from 100,000 a dedicated IP on request. It costs $10 more at 15,000 emails and $19 more at 50,000, and it is the only plan above 50,000 emails.

What happens if I send more emails than my Mailjet plan allows?

On paid plans you can keep sending and Mailjet bills the extra emails when the plan renews: $2.58 per 1,000 on Starter and the 15,000 tiers, falling to $1.2 on Premium 500,000. Extra usage cannot be turned off. If you upgrade before the cycle ends, the extra emails are deducted from the new plan instead of billed.

Does Mailjet offer annual billing?

Yes, 10% off any plan, paid upfront for 12 months and non-refundable. You still get a fixed monthly volume: unused emails don't carry over to the next month, and overage is billed monthly. You can upgrade any time; downgrades and switching back to monthly are only possible in the last month of the yearly cycle.

Can I downgrade my Mailjet plan?

Yes, from the account; the change takes effect at the end of the billing cycle. Going from Premium to Essential turns off automations (progress is lost) and unpublishes landing pages. Moving to Starter with more than 2,000 contacts, or to Free with more than 1,000, blocks sending until you delete contacts or upgrade again.
