Mailchimp sells four marketing plans: Free ($0, up to 250 contacts), Essentials (from $13/mo), Standard (from $20/mo) and Premium (from $350/mo). Paid plans are priced by how many contacts you store, and each includes a monthly send limit of 10x, 12x or 15x your contacts. Standard costs $7–$65 a month more than Essentials at the same list size.

Which plan should you pick?
- Free only for a list under 250 contacts and 500 emails a month, with Mailchimp branding and no scheduling. Sending pauses if you go over. Details and cheaper free plans: Mailchimp Free plan limits.
- Essentials for regular newsletters without real automation: branding removed, scheduling, A/B tests and 24/7 support, but automation flows limited to 4 steps and basic segmentation.
- Standard if you need welcome or abandoned-cart flows with more than 4 steps, branching, dynamic content, send-time optimization or more than 3 seats or audiences. It's also the only self-serve plan above 50,000 contacts (up to 100,000).
- Premium for teams that need unlimited seats and audiences, phone support, SSO or more sends (15x). At 10,000 contacts it costs $350 vs Standard's $135.

Discounts, trials, overages and plan changes
- Nonprofit discount: 15% off for verified nonprofits and charities. US: add your EIN first; elsewhere: send your website. Ask before you buy; no retroactive discounts. About the Nonprofit Discount
- Free trial: 14 days of Standard or Essentials, payment details required, for new customers or Free accounts under 90 days old in select countries. Premium: 1-month trial through sales for qualified customers.
- Annual billing: only for Standard and Premium at 10,000+ contacts, through sales.
- Going over your limit: paid plans don't stop sending; Mailchimp adds "add-on contact blocks" to your bill (each block keeps the plan's send multiple, e.g. 1,000 extra contacts on Standard include 12,000 extra sends). Block prices are only shown when you're logged in. You're billed on your peak contact count in the period; archived and cleaned contacts don't count. About Additional Charges
- Upgrading is immediate and prorated. Downgrading takes effect next billing cycle, and you can drop from paid to Free only once in the life of the account. Pausing: 3 or 6 months, up to twice in 12 months, data kept. Change or Pause Your Marketing Plan
Where Mailchimp's own pages disagree
- Automations on Essentials: the key-features table says "Up to 4 flow steps"; the detailed table lists Marketing Automation Flows as "Included" (but no multiple starting points or branching).
- Automations on Free: "Not included" in the key-features table, "Free preview" in the detailed table.
- Customer success manager: the table says Essentials and Standard include it "with 30k contacts +"; the disclaimer says it comes with select custom plans spending at least $299 a month.
- Premium list size: the plan card says "unlimited contacts", the table says "Contact us for a custom plan" and the price list stops at 200,000 contacts, with sales pricing above 250,000.

FAQ
What are the Mailchimp plans?

Paid plans are priced by the number of contacts you store.
What is the difference between Mailchimp Essentials and Standard?
Standard adds real automation (up to 200 flows with branching and multiple starting points, where Essentials is limited to 4 flow steps), dynamic content, send-time optimization, delivery by time zone, advanced and predictive segmentation, custom reports, generative AI features, MMS, 5 seats instead of 3, 5 audiences instead of 3 and a higher send limit (12x contacts vs 10x). It costs $7–$65 a month more at the same list size, and Essentials stops at 50,000 contacts.
How much does Mailchimp cost per month?
At 500 contacts: Essentials $13, Standard $20. At 10,000 contacts: Essentials $110, Standard $135, Premium $350. At 50,000: Essentials $385, Standard $450, Premium $815. These are Mailchimp's regular monthly prices in USD; going over your contact or send limit adds extra charges.
Does Mailchimp have a nonprofit discount?
Yes. Mailchimp gives verified nonprofits and charities 15% off. US organizations add their EIN to the account first (Mailchimp may ask for the 501(c)(3) letter); organizations elsewhere send a link to their website. Request it through Mailchimp's contact form (Billing → Non-profit Discount Requests) before you buy a plan: Mailchimp says it can't give retroactive discounts or refunds on past purchases.
What do Mailchimp plans cost in the UK, Europe, Australia and Canada?
Mailchimp bills in local currency with its own price list for each one. At 500 contacts Essentials is £9.77, €11.73, A$18.63 or C$18.29 a month; Standard is £15.04, €18.05, A$28.67 or C$28.14. The table on this page shows 10,000 contacts too. Mailchimp's price table doesn't say whether local taxes are included.
Does Mailchimp have annual plans?
Only for Premium and Standard at 10,000+ contacts, and only through sales: the comparison page says to contact sales about pricing and eligibility. All prices on this page are monthly.
Is there a Mailchimp free trial?
Standard and Essentials have a 14-day free trial for new customers (or Free accounts created in the last 90 days, in select countries). You must enter payment details and are charged when the trial ends unless you cancel. Premium has a 1-month trial for qualified customers through sales.
Can I pause or downgrade a Mailchimp plan?
You can pause a paid plan for 3 or 6 months, at most twice in 12 months; it restarts billing automatically. Downgrades take effect at the next billing cycle. You can downgrade from a paid plan to Free only once over the life of your account.
