Cheapest SMS marketing platform (2026): Brevo vs Mailchimp vs Klaviyo cost per text by country

Short answer: for a small or occasional send, Brevo is usually cheapest: 1,000 texts to the US cost about $10.90 in prepaid credits that never expire, against $15/month on Klaviyo and $20/month on Mailchimp. At 5,000 texts a month the order changes: Mailchimp is cheapest in 13 of the 23 countries below, thanks to cheaper bigger blocks (5,000 German texts: $490.50 on Brevo, $370 on Mailchimp, $630 on Klaviyo). Ranked by price only.
Each figure uses that platform's own public pricing data in US dollars: the SMS tab of Brevo's pricing calculator, Mailchimp's SMS pricing page with credits per country from Mailchimp help, and the Mobile messages calculator on Klaviyo's pricing page (checked 2026-10-29). Single-part texts (160 characters), excluding tax and the email plan. Mailchimp and Klaviyo say your exact rates are shown in your account, so treat these as estimates from the public prices.
How each platform charges
- Brevo: prepaid credits, $1.09 per 100, bought in steps of 100, never expire, available on every plan including Free. Brevo SMS pricing
- Mailchimp: a monthly credit block (from 1,000 credits for $20/month) on top of a paid email plan; unused credits expire. Bigger blocks cost less per credit. Mailchimp SMS pricing
- Klaviyo: a monthly mobile messaging plan (from 1,250 credits for $15/month); unused spend expires; Klaviyo says carrier fees are included. Klaviyo SMS pricing

What else changes the real cost
- The email plan: Mailchimp SMS needs Essentials or higher (from $13/month at 500 contacts). Brevo SMS works on Free. Klaviyo's free plan includes $5 of mobile messages a month.
- Expiry: Mailchimp and Klaviyo credits reset every month; Brevo credits stay until used. If you only text now and then, a monthly plan bills you in the months you don't send unless you change it each time.
- Message length: an emoji or special character cuts a text to 70 characters, and longer messages are billed per part on all three, so the cost can double.
- Sending numbers: Mailchimp texts only go to contacts in the country of your sending number and each extra country needs its own number and credits.

What is the cheapest SMS marketing platform?
Of the three we track, Brevo is cheapest for small volumes in most countries: at 1,000 texts a month it is cheapest in 16 of 23 countries, because you buy prepaid credits with no monthly minimum. At 5,000 texts a month Mailchimp is cheapest in 13 of 23 countries, because Mailchimp's bigger credit blocks get much cheaper per credit. It depends on the country, so check your main country in the tables.
How much does SMS marketing cost per message?
In the United States about 1.09 US dollars per text on Brevo, 0.020 at Mailchimp's smallest block and 0.0149 on Klaviyo's smallest plan (toll-free number). European countries use several times more credits per text: a German text uses 9 Brevo credits, 12 Mailchimp credits and 13.788 Klaviyo credits.
Do I also need an email plan to send SMS?
On Brevo you can buy SMS credits on the Free plan. Mailchimp SMS needs a paid email plan, Essentials or higher (from $13/month at 500 contacts). Klaviyo's free plan includes $5 of mobile messages a month, and its paid mobile plans are listed next to the email plans (Email from $20/month for 500 profiles). The tables on this page show SMS costs only.
Is SMS cheaper with prepaid credits or a monthly plan?
Prepaid credits (Brevo) never expire, so they are cheaper if you text rarely or irregularly. Mailchimp and Klaviyo sell monthly plans whose unused credits expire each month, but their larger plans cost less per credit, which can beat Brevo at a steady few thousand texts a month in Europe.
Why is texting Germany or the Netherlands so expensive?
Carrier costs differ by country, so every platform charges more credits per text there. On Brevo a German text uses 9 credits against 1 for the US, so 1,000 German texts cost about $98.10 on Brevo, $110 on Mailchimp and $140 on Klaviyo.
