Short answer: On published cost, AWeber Lite undercuts Mailchimp Essentials at every list size we checked (at 5,000 contacts, weekly: $60/mo vs Mailchimp $75), but GetResponse Starter ($54), Brevo Starter ($32) and often MailerLite Comfort ($49) are cheaper on weekly sends. Free can send — 500 subscribers / 3,000 sends a month — with a larger send allowance than GetResponse Free. Paid Lite starts at $15/mo and includes 10× your tier in sends, so high send frequency can auto-upgrade you to a higher tier (unlike GetResponse's unlimited paid sends).
Prices from AWeber, Mailchimp, GetResponse, Brevo and MailerLite (AWeber tiers re-checked live 2026-11-06; matched our 2026-11-03 snapshot), monthly billing, cheapest plan that covers the list at 4 emails/month. What AWeber costs
- Free: up to 500 subscribers and 3,000 sends a month (~100/day); 1 list, 1 workflow automation, 1 landing page; AWeber badge stays; no card; lifetime access (help, Free page).
- Lite (paid): from $15/mo at 500 subscribers; 10× tier sends/month; 1 list, 3 landing pages, 3 email automations, 3 users; branding stays (pricing, sends).
- Plus: from $30/mo; 12× tier sends; unlimited lists/pages/automations/users; branding removed; behavioral automation; at 5,000 Plus is $90/mo.
- Who counts: active subscribers (unsubscribed and unconfirmed/pending contacts don't count toward the tier) (pricing basis).
- Billing: monthly or yearly (yearly = 10× monthly / 2 months free, except Plus at 500 = $240/yr); 14-day trial on paid plans (card required); Hold Package $4.99/mo; nonprofits 3 months free then 25% off; students 20% off with .edu/.ac (pricing FAQ).
- Going over: AWeber auto-upgrades when subscribers or monthly sends exceed your tier; it does not auto-downgrade — ask Customer Solutions to move down (FAQ, sends).
- Paid newsletter fee: AWeber Ecommerce takes 1% per transaction on Free/Lite and 0.6% on Plus, plus Stripe's own fees — not 0% like GetResponse Creator / MailerLite Comfort.

Pros and cons (from AWeber's own pages)
- Pros: Free can send (500 / 3,000); Lite from $15/mo; yearly ≈ 2 months free + nonprofit/student discounts; Hold Package $4.99/mo; public list-size table to 150,000; unsubscribed contacts don't count toward the tier.
- Cons: 10×/12× send caps with auto-upgrade (no auto-downgrade); often dearer than GetResponse/Brevo/MailerLite on weekly sends; branding removal needs Plus; Ecommerce cut 1%/0.6% (not 0%); Lite sales-tracking wording conflicts on AWeber's own pricing page (see AWeber plans).
