Short answer: On published cost, Mailjet undercuts Mailchimp Essentials at every list size we checked (at 1,000 contacts, weekly: $9/mo vs Mailchimp $26.50; at 5,000: $40 vs $75), and it often undercuts MailerLite Comfort too. Vs Brevo Starter the picture flips with list size and send frequency — at 1,000 Mailjet ($9) beats Brevo ($17), but at 5,000 weekly Brevo ($32) beats Mailjet ($40). Free can send (6,000/mo, 200/day) but the daily cap makes Free impractical above ~200 per send. Paid plans start at $9/mo and bill by email volume, so high send frequency raises the bill the same way it does on Brevo.
Prices from Mailjet, Mailchimp, Brevo and MailerLite (Mailjet tiers re-checked live 2026-11-06; matched our 2026-11-03 snapshot), monthly billing, cheapest plan that covers the list at 4 emails/month. Mailjet rules from its pricing page catalogue and Subscription Management (checked 2026-11-06). Mailjet has no affiliate deal with us — plain links, no “paid link” labels.
What Mailjet costs
- Free: up to 6,000 emails a month, max 200 a day, up to 1,000 contacts stored; no credit card; Mailjet logo stays; ticket support limited to the first month (pricing, help).
- Starter: $9/mo for 8,000 emails, up to 2,000 contacts; brand kit; 1 subaccount; logo stays; no automations (pricing).
- Essential: $19/mo for 15,000 emails or $40 for 50,000; unlimited contacts; segmentation; custom unsubscribe page; no Mailjet logo; still no automations.
- Premium: from $29/mo for 15,000 emails up to $499 for 500,000; automations, A/B testing, landing pages, advanced statistics, team management, priority support; no logo (pricing).
- Billing model: pay for emails sent per month (not primarily contacts). Essential and Premium have unlimited contacts; Free/Starter cap contacts. Yearly is 10% off, paid upfront. Extra emails on paid plans are billed as overage; unused emails do not roll over (Subscription Management).
- Paid newsletters: Mailjet's pricing page lists no paid-subscription / creator-fee product — our calculator leaves Mailjet out when you need paid newsletter subscriptions.
- SMS: not modelled here; Mailjet's email plans are the cost comparison on this page.

When Mailjet is the cheaper (or equal) choice
- Vs Mailchimp Essentials at every size we checked: at 500 Mailjet $9 vs Mailchimp $13; at 1,000 $9 vs $26.50 ($17.50 less); at 5,000 $40 vs $75 ($35 less); at 10,000 $40 vs $110; at 25,000 $112 vs $270.
- Vs Brevo Starter at 1,000 / 2,500 / 10,000 (tied at 500): e.g. at 1,000 Mailjet Starter $9 vs Brevo $17; at 10,000 Mailjet Essential $40 vs Brevo $46.
- Vs MailerLite Comfort at 500 / 1,000 / 2,500 / 5,000 / 10,000 / 25,000: e.g. at 1,000 / 2,500 / 10,000 Mailjet undercuts Comfort on weekly sends.
- Light senders at mid lists: monthly (not weekly) at 5,000 stays on Essential $19 for 15,000 emails — cheaper than the weekly $40 tier.
- Yearly billing: 10% off every plan when paid upfront (help).
- API / SMTP relay users: Free already includes APIs, SMTP relay and webhooks on the pricing comparison table — cost is still gated by the send caps above.
When Mailjet isn't the cheapest choice
- Vs Brevo Starter on weekly sends at 5,000 / 25,000: at 5,000 Mailjet $40 vs Brevo $32 ($8 more). See Is Brevo worth it?.
- High send frequency: at 5,000, 3×/week is Premium $112 and daily is Premium $265 while Brevo stays lower on the frequency table.
- Free above ~200 per send: the 200/day cap forces Starter (or higher) even when monthly volume would still fit Free's 6,000 — Brevo Free allows 300/day and stores far more contacts.
- Automations: only Premium includes automations — at 5,000 weekly that is $59 (Premium 50k), not Essential $40.
- Paid newsletter / creator billing: not offered on Mailjet's pricing page — use a platform that publishes paid-subscription fees if that is a hard requirement.
- Vs MailerLite at none of these sizes: check the cost table; Comfort can win at some sizes on weekly sends.

- Pros: Free can send (6,000/mo, 200/day); Starter from $9/mo; Essential removes the logo from $19; email-volume pricing with public USD/EUR/GBP tables; yearly 10%; API/SMTP on Free; undercuts Mailchimp at every size we checked.
- Cons: Free daily cap 200; Starter still shows the logo and caps contacts at 2,000; automations only on Premium; overage billed on paid plans and unused emails don't roll over; no paid-newsletter product on the pricing page; at several mid/large weekly sizes Brevo Starter is cheaper.

Because of the daily cap, one send can reach only 200 people in a day — so at 500 weekly our calculator already picks Starter ($9/mo), not Free.
