Omnisend can import contacts and supported segments straight from Klaviyo with a read-only private API key (the Klaviyo Data Import Tool), or its free Kickstart team recreates templates, forms and live workflows when you have 250 or more contacts. Campaign stats stay behind. On cost, 5,000 contacts with automations run $100/mo on Klaviyo and $81/mo on Omnisend, monthly billing, email only.

Prices from Klaviyo and Omnisend (checked 2026-11-03), monthly billing. Steps from Omnisend's Migrate from Klaviyo guide, the Klaviyo Data Import Tool article and Klaviyo's help center (checked 2026-11-05). Neither company has an affiliate deal with us.

Cheapest plan on each platform with automations that covers the contacts, one send a month, monthly billing, email only (SMS is a separate add-on on both).

How each counts people. Klaviyo bills active profiles: suppressed and unsubscribed profiles don't count (Klaviyo help). Omnisend bills billable contacts — subscribers plus non-subscribers who can still get automated messages; only unsubscribed contacts are excluded (Omnisend pricing). Both count shoppers who gave an email at checkout without opting in. More in every Klaviyo tier and every Omnisend tier.

How often you send

Klaviyo's email tiers include 10 sends per profile a month. Omnisend Standard includes 12× your contact count in emails per billing cycle; Pro is unlimited emails (fair use). Same 5,000 contacts, different schedules:

Before you start

Route 1: free Kickstart (250+ contacts)

Omnisend's free expert-assisted migration is for accounts with 250 or more Klaviyo contacts, on any Omnisend plan (Omnisend help). The Migration Team can transfer and recreate:

  1. If the Migration Dashboard appears after signup (you selected Klaviyo as your previous platform), choose Continue to migration, create a read-only Private API key in Klaviyo, paste it, then follow Bring in a migration specialist and invite Omnisend's team as Admin.
  2. If you already have an Omnisend account, request Kickstart at omnisend.com/kickstart-service/. Omnisend says the team replies in 1–2 business days; migration typically takes about 5 business days after they receive the required access.
  3. Review recreated assets before enabling automations. Some Klaviyo features or third-party integrations have no direct Omnisend equivalent; the team flags those.

Omnisend's switch-from-Klaviyo marketing page also describes a full migration package "valued at $1,000" (omnisend.com/switch-from-klaviyo/). The help center FAQ says Kickstart itself has no additional charge for 250+ contacts. We show both: the help article is the pricing claim we rely on for "free".

Route 2: Klaviyo Data Import Tool (any size)

Use this for a DIY contact/segment sync, or when you have fewer than 250 contacts (Omnisend's automatic dashboard import covers that case after you connect Klaviyo; the standalone tool works the same way under Apps).

  1. In Omnisend: Apps → search Klaviyo Data Import Tool → Connect now (Omnisend help).
  2. In Klaviyo: Settings → API Keys → Create Private API Key → choose Read-Only Key, name it (e.g. Omnisend integration), copy it once (Klaviyo: Manage API keys).
  3. Back in Omnisend: paste the key → Connect → Sync contacts & segments. Omnisend says the tool imports contacts in batches of about 500 every 5 seconds and processes supported segments automatically.
  4. Check the result: status Completed, contacts tagged klaviyo_import_app under Audience → Contacts, and the Segments Migration table (Migrated vs Failed). Failed segments usually use unsupported filters (e.g. predictive analytics) — recreate them in Omnisend or export that segment's contacts from Klaviyo as a static CSV import.
  5. Re-sync while you dual-run: the tool is not real-time. Apps → Connected Apps → Edit the tool → Sync contacts & segments again for new contacts, property updates and new segments. Delete the Klaviyo key when you're done.

Route 3: CSV (fallback)

  1. Export each list or segment in Klaviyo: Audience → Lists & segments → Manage list/segment → Export to CSV → download from Settings → Other → Downloads (kept 30 days) (Klaviyo help).
  2. In Omnisend: Audience → Contacts → Add or update contacts → Import contacts from a file; map fields and set the correct subscription status (Omnisend: Import contacts from a file, general migration guide).
  3. Omnisend's general migration guide recommends exporting email and SMS as separate lists when possible, including consent timestamps, and not importing bounced or inactive contacts you don't intend to email.

What moves and what doesn't

Sunsetting Klaviyo

  1. Flows: set them to Draft rather than deleting; clear scheduled status changes so nothing flips back on (Klaviyo help).
  2. Campaigns and forms: cancel scheduled campaigns; set signup forms to Draft once Omnisend forms are live.
  3. Integrations: remove the ecommerce integration (Integrations → My apps → Remove integration) and any manually added Klaviyo snippets.
  4. Cancel: account menu → Billing → Overview → Cancel plan (end of cycle recommended). Reactivate to free, or close the account (Owners only) after you keep your exports (Klaviyo help).

FAQ

Does Omnisend have a Klaviyo importer?

Yes. Omnisend's Klaviyo Data Import Tool (Apps → search "Klaviyo Data Import Tool" → Connect now) takes a read-only Klaviyo private API key and syncs contacts and supported segments. If you picked Klaviyo during Omnisend signup, the Migration Dashboard walks you through the same connection. Omnisend also offers a free expert-assisted Kickstart migration when you have 250 or more Klaviyo contacts.

Is the Omnisend Kickstart migration free?

Yes, for accounts with 250 or more Klaviyo contacts, on any Omnisend plan. Omnisend says the Migration Team recreates your 10 most recent email templates, live automation workflows, live signup forms, plus contacts and supported segments, usually in about 5 business days after they get Admin access to your Klaviyo account. Under 250 contacts you use the automatic import (or the Data Import Tool) and rebuild the rest yourself. You can also request Kickstart via omnisend.com/kickstart-service/ if the Migration Dashboard isn't shown.

What does the Klaviyo Data Import Tool sync?

Contacts (email, phone, name, address, city, country, custom properties with a klaviyo_ prefix, plus a klaviyo_last_active_date property) and supported segments (names prefixed with [OS] in Omnisend). Subscription statuses map: Klaviyo subscribed → Omnisend Email/SMS subscribers; never subscribed → non-subscribers; unsubscribed or suppressed → unsubscribers. Consent records copy when Klaviyo has a consent timestamp plus source fields. Every synced contact gets the tag klaviyo_import_app. It is not a live sync: re-run Sync contacts & segments to pick up later changes. Campaign reports and statistics do not move.

Do Klaviyo suppressions and unsubscribes transfer?

Yes, through the Data Import Tool: Omnisend imports Klaviyo unsubscribed or suppressed contacts as unsubscribers, with the opt-out date from Klaviyo. That matches Omnisend's billing rule that only unsubscribed contacts are excluded from the billable count. Keep the list accurate before your first Omnisend send. If you migrate by CSV instead, Omnisend's general migration guide says to export subscription status and only import opted-in contacts, so suppressions need a separate unsubscribed import.

Is Omnisend cheaper than Klaviyo?

At 5,000 contacts with automations, Omnisend costs $81/mo (Standard) and Klaviyo $100/mo (Email), monthly billing, email only, so less on Omnisend. At 1,000 it is $20 vs $30, and at 10,000 $132 vs $150. Both free plans cover 250 contacts and 500 emails a month. Klaviyo includes 10 sends per profile a month; Omnisend Standard includes 12× contacts in emails, and Pro is unlimited (fair use), so the gap changes with how often you send.

Can I move Klaviyo email templates to Omnisend?

As HTML, or by rebuilding them. Export the HTML from Klaviyo (Content → Templates → Email: saved → 3-dot menu → Export). Omnisend's Import Custom HTML Email Templates article covers bringing that HTML in; migrated designs from Kickstart land under Store settings → Saved templates. Replace Klaviyo personalization tags before you send, and send a test. Kickstart recreates your 10 most recent templates (more on request).

How do I cancel Klaviyo after switching?

Keep Klaviyo active until contacts, forms and workflows work on Omnisend. Then in Klaviyo: set flows to Draft, cancel scheduled campaigns, remove the ecommerce integration and tracking snippets, and cancel under account menu → Billing → Overview → Cancel plan (end of billing cycle is recommended; immediate cancellations aren't refunded). You can Reactivate to free afterwards, or close the account (Owners only), which deletes data — export first.
